In the scope of the initial sample testing nominal-actual-comparison between the scanned workpiece and a reference workpiece can be made.

The object of reference can be a CAD model in the formats IGES, STEP or STL.

By this comparison, deviations between the actual and the nominal dimensions may quickly be determined.

The deviations are displayed color-coded in the sectional views as well as in the CT volume, so that at any time the information is available, whether or not the object to be tested matches the measurements of the reference object or if there are deviations.

Direct workpiece comparisons by actual-actual-analysis are also possible, which enable you e.g. to compare two mold cavities from one cast or to compare an identical sample before and after a material treatment or a particular duration.

A CAD file can be generated from the CT data set, which is particularly useful in reverse engineering applications and product development. Exported CAD file formats are recognized by many software such as CAD, FEA, and CFD. The CAD file created by CT scanning can not only show the external components, but the internal as well. This allows for first-time rapid prototyping of internal components without the task of creating an entirely new CAD file by hand.
